#6 BEST HAUNTED HOUSE IN SOUTHER CALIFORNIA
The Haunted Hotel 424 Market Street San Diego, Ca 921013 out of 7 Goalie Masks (Goalie Masks: Vip/Handicap, Party!, History)
History: San Diego’s longest running haunt. The Hotel opened its doors to victims in 2008 and has plenty of experience. The Haunted Hotel is in downtown San Diego in the historic Gaslamp District on the corner of 4th and Market.
Tickets: Tickets are $20 a piece and they have VIP avoid the line $30 and $5 off coupons available at any San Diego Goodwill Store while supplies last. Coupons are valid Sunday – Thursday only. The big catch is that you can’t purchase your tickets online to receive a discount (but you will save the $3.00 service fee they charge online) but, you will have to wait in the ticket line 30 to 90 minutes. If you have coupons we suggest to come extra early and avoid the rush. San Diego Hotlimos and Party Bus have Discounted Group Rates; please make sure to notify us if you want us to procure your tickets for you.
Scares: They claim to be a recent #1 Haunt in America, but what “recent” and “who’s doing the ranking” is left out. I guess you will have to be the judge. This year the claim to have the all-new “Hellevator” which will probably take you to hell and back without a hand-basket is their new attraction. Wednesdays are special in that they turn down the lights a bit for an even scarier mood. Kids under 10 are not recommended. When any Haunted House doesn’t have a mandatory age of entrance it generally means they are family friendly (read between the lines – not scary)
#5 BEST HAUNTED HOUSE IN SOUTHER CALIFORNIA
Dark Harbor Queen Mary 1126 Queens Highway Long Beach, CA 908026 out of 8 Goalie Masks (Goalie Masks: Party!, History, Reviews, Time, Professional Scare, Physically Demanding
History: 19 years of bringing adrenaline to bursting levels. Every year 23,000 square feet. Biggest indoor haunt in Southern California (Not sure how that beats a whole cruise ship – Queen Mary) People have amazing reviews throughout the years. The great thing about long lasting events is that they are able to provide more for less.
Tickets: $15 for General Admission and $25 for VIP and allows you the head of the line access. VIP Fast Line you will save yourself a good 60% of your time.
Scares: 8 Themes with over 100 Rooms. You won’t be (shouldn’t be touched) so don’t count on peeing your pants or cardiac arrest but be prepared for very well planned out scares. They do have “Lights on Tours” for kids between 1pm and 4pm. Sometimes history is more important than anything. Reign of Terror doesn’t rank well with us but 19 years is a very important number. We have yet to find a bad review. For what it’s worth sometimes the poorest kid in the room will end up making the most money.
#4 BEST HAUNTED HOUSE IN SOUTHER CALIFORNIA
Knotts Scary Farms 8039 Beach Boulevard Buena Park CA 906205.5 out of 8 Goalie Masks (Goalie Masks: Vip/Handicap, Party!, History, Reviews, Physically Challenging, Rooms/Ghouls)
History: Knotts Scary Farms easily puts on the biggest show for Haunted Houses in the U.S. They spend millions and have over 1000 creatures lurking the mazes to scare you! They completely overhaul their Theme Park just for Halloween. They want to be the biggest and best fright on the planet. The mazes leave little to the imagination because they have thought of every possible way to scare every victim without burying them in the ground for 24 hours. Since they are a very large corporate company they have much to protect. These are mazes won’t be very “physical” but the technical and machinery involved is amazing in every sense of the word. Nothing is done and cheap! The costumes and the acting by the ghouls is convincing and frightening.
Tickets: San Diego Hotlimos and Party Bus has group tickets for groups 15 or more. You can also go to Carl’s Jr., Hot Topic, AAA, and always the Military Discount. Coupons range from $35 to $50. but they do not come with the “Fast Lane”. If you don’t have that you better like standing for hours. Weekends you are looking at $150 with Fast Lane.
Scares: 4 zones or terror that are themed so you can pick your “flavor”: CarnEvil, Ghost Town Streets, Forsaken Lake, The Hallow. A grand total of 9 mazes of a lurking demons, creatures, evil entities! Easily the largest in in California. For the parents or kids who are too “ascared” (afraid + scared) the have some entertainment. The shows for the whole family: Conjurers – magic show. Hacks! – Comedy Theater. The Hanging – Comedy Theater. Last but not least lets not forget 13 Thrill Rides, 15 Family Rides, and 12 Kids Rides.
Both Knotts Scary Farm and Dark Harbor received the same score. We felt that Knott’s Scary Farm had more to offer for the money: rides, experience, advanced techniques. You will spend more money but it’s a very elaborate setup. For complete satisfication we would suggest to get their as early as possible.

#1 BEST HAUNTED HOUSE IN SOUTHER CALIFORNIA
HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD - UNIVERSAL CITY, CA6 out of 8 Goalie Masks (Goalie Masks: Vip/Handicap, Party!, History, Reviews, Physically Challenging, Rooms/Ghouls)
History:RANKED THE MOST POPULAR HAUNTED HOUSE IN THE US – The annual event, which takes 14 months, 1,000 actors, and countless twisted minds to bring to life, is downright chilling. It transforms the friendly facades of rides that, during the day, are home to Minions and lovable green ogres into smoke-shrouded hellscapes full of, for starters, undead vikings and hungry zombies.
This year’s HHN (as its legions of fans have dubbed the two-month celebration of all things spooky), takes place on select nights from September 6 to November 2 . It’s also 80’s themed, and to my delight and surprise, featured several things I’m not afraid of at all — like Ghostbusters, retro video arcades and the .
It also contained plenty of things I’d hoped to never encounter: most notably roving live actors, known as “scareactors” (rhymes with “characters”), trained to sneak up on you when you’re innocently passing through one of the park’s five elaborately themed “scare zones” — or, if you’re foolish enough, when you enter one of its ten, .
Tickets: Tickets are not cheap. For a full day you are looking at $60 to $100. Depending on day you would like to go.
Scares: 10 zones or terror that are themed so you can pick your “flavor”: CarnEvil, Ghost Town Streets, Forsaken Lake, The Hallow. A grand total of 9 mazes of a lurking demons, creatures, evil entities! Easily the largest in in California. BONUS: BEST HAUNTED HOUSE IN SOUTHERn CALIFORNIA
Creep Los Angeles 777 S. Alameda St Los Angeles, CA 900216 out of 8 Goalie Masks (Goalie Masks: Party!, History, Reviews, Time, Professional Scare, Physically Demanding)
We are not going to grade Creep because we haven’t found any convincing evidence of its success. They are very specific in saying,
“CREEP LA: AWAKE IS A FULLY IMMERSIVE, MULTI-SENSORY EXPERIENCE IN WHICH 25 AUDIENCE MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO EXPLORE HIDDEN SCENES, INTIMATE ENCOUNTERS AND FRIGHTFUL STORIES. THIS IS NOT A HAUNTED HOUSE EXPERIENCE!”.
We are anxious to mention this event because it’s over an hour long and every person who does mention it mentions of how “creepy” it is.
You have to sign an extra large disclaimer and people have claimed some rather bizarre things online. Victims have mentioned it as an interactive experience and in 2015 and 2016 were very good. Unfortunately, victims said that they wasted their money. With that kind of bad press it tends to make artists really shine! I think I will go and report on it for you next year.
Not to worry though for they are open until November 4.
What I haven’t told you is the price: $69.00! Not only is it that but you have to sign up for a slotted time and there are no discounted times.
To add in your curiosity: “AWAKE” IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR AUDIENCE MEMBERS WHO ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH WALKING, CRAWLING, STANDING, CLIMBING STAIRS, MOMENTS OF COMPLETE DARKNESS, MATURE THEMES, INTIMATE ENCOUNTERS OR BEING IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO STRANGERS AND PERFORMERS. YOU WILL BE TOUCHED.
